Maher has indeed come a long way since its humble beginnings in 1997. We cannot, however rest on our laurels, for there is much more to be done and too much unattended misery. After much thought, Maher has narrowed down the immediate requirements to the following :

Hostel for boys and girls

Estimated cost Rs.3 million. Since many of Maher’s children are now passing out of school and will have to go to colleges, which are not close-by, some residential facility will have to be provided to them that will be close to their educational centers. Therefore, it is proposed that a hostel for around 50 students would have to be built. Plans are now being made for this purpose.

Proper fencing of Maher

Estimated to cost Rs.0.9 million (9 lakhs). It has been a long-standing requirement of Maher to have a proper fencing – both to keep unwanted humans and animals from entering the premises from any point, and also to keep little children from straying into the adjacent fields, risking the wrath of a snake or a scorpion. The gates of Maher are never closed, which makes it very important that Maher should have a proper fencing for security.

Multi Purpose Hall

Estimated cost Rs.2.5 million (Rs.25 lakhs). This is to be constructed for various purposes such as staff/children’s/women’s meetings, meetings of village folk, indoor games, variety entertainment programmes, conferences, workshops and perhaps even weddings of some of the daughters of Maher. With the rapid expansion of the number of inmates, the need for a hall is being acutely felt, though this would be quite low on the priority list.

Children’s village

Maher wants to build it’s own children’s village, a place where around 2000 childtren could call “home”. The village would have the latest technical facilities. For this there is a need for atleast 20 acres of land. The budget for this dream of Maher has not been estimated as yet.

Children’s home at Bakori

Estimated at Rs.5.5 million (Rs.55 Lakhs). This home will house two Balsadans for the children of Bakori and Kesnand village.

Expansion of Maher at other states of India

The need is being felt to help battered women and children in other parts of the country.
